FMFF Kids Matinee — Lights, Camera, Family!

The Fernie Mountain Film Festival is calling all Elk Valley families!

The FMFF Kids Matinee is a brand-new initiative giving families with kids a platform to share their outdoor world — the mountains, the waterways, the culture, and the environment that make this valley home. All you need is a smartphone and a story. Capture the run that finally clicked. The view they didn’t think they’d reach. The moment that made them feel stoked, dialed, and alive. We want to see the Elk Valley through your family’s eyes.

Who Can Participate
This is for Elk Valley families with kids 18 and under. Kids should be involved in the filmmaking — directing, starring, narrating, editing, or all of the above. Parents and guardians are welcome to help, but let the kids take the lead.

What You’ll Get
Every film selected for screening receives an Official Selection certificate. There will also be awards and surprises for winners — stay tuned for details.

How to Submit Your Film
You don’t need fancy gear — a smartphone is all it takes. Here’s what we need from you:

  • Film length: 5 minutes maximum. We recommend 1 to 3 minutes — shortand sweet tends to steal the show.

  • Resolution: 1080p or higher.

  • Format: MP4 (H.264).

  • Content: Family-friendly and connected to the outdoor world — mountains, waterways, culture, environment, adventure.

  • Submit by email: fmffkidsfest@gmail.com

  • Submission Deadline: End of December

The Big Screen
Selected films will be screened at the FMFF Kids Matinee in February 2027 at the Knox on 2nd Performing Arts Venue (201 2nd Ave, Fernie). Your family’s film, up on the big screen, with the whole community watching.
